Rebuilding and Reimagining Reitz Ranch

  • Patty McMullen-Mikles Art Gallery 601 Black Hills Drive Clarkdale, AZ, 86324 United States (map)

For years the late Don Reitz quietly created masterpieces on his ranch in Clarkdale. To the outside world he was considered one of the fathers of modern ceramics. Few in central Arizona were aware of this magical activity and place. Over the years, many assistants came through the ranch from out of state to apprentice and fire his wood fire and salt kilns. Others were fortunate enough to be invited to work in teams to fire kilns and watch unveilings of the firings at the ranch. Kiln openings, which Don described as Christmas or Halloween, were highly anticipated.

Several years after Don passed, two lovely people and a pack of rescue dogs and horses came to the ranch with a vision of continuing the legacy of Don Reitz and building community. This show is about Sheryl and Ted and the group of artists who have joined them to build on this vision.
