Adjunct Professor of Art History
I began teaching art even when I was still in college, running a life drawing club at UC Santa Cruz. Since then, teaching has been a core component in my life. In 2000 I graduated from UCSC with a degree in Studio Art and shortly thereafter received my teaching credential from San Francisco State University. I have been teaching at Berkeley High School since 2004. While working here I developed both the AP and iB Art History programs, having taught numerous students who have gone on to earn their degrees in art history at Cornell, Puget Sound, and NYU among others. As a workshop consultant for the College Board, I’ve led professional development for teachers, helping them learn how to teach art history. In 2017 I decided to go back to school and earn my MA in Modern art history, theory, and criticism from Azusa Pacific University. Having lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for all of my adult life, I am an avid 49ers and Giants fan. When not engaged in teaching I enjoy woodworking, going to museums, and playing fantasy football. I currently live in Oakland, California with my wife, my son, and his increasingly large collection of Hot Wheels.
